Alyssa Milano Launches Grassroots Campaign to Defeat ‘the Orange-Haired Guy’ in Michigan

Michigan is one of three swing states being targeted by a new campaign started by actress and Democratic activist Alyssa Milano.

Milano is partnering with Movement Voter Project to raise money for grassroots organizations in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania to defeat the “orange-haired guy.” Organizations that receive money from this fund will “empower youth, immigrants, women, people of color, and communities facing the worst of Republicans’ horrible policies,” according to her fundraising website.

“This is the most compelling strategy I’ve heard to stop the orange-haired guy and support local community heroes at the same time. Please join me in supporting these awesome, underfunded local groups to save our country – from the grassroots up,” Milano wrote.

In 2016, President Donald Trump won Michigan by only 11,000 votes over Hillary Clinton.

The actress’s 2020 fund website describes the three Michigan organizations slated to receive money from her campaign. They are:

Detroit Action Fund: “A grassroots membership-based organization that fights for economic and social justice for low-income workers in Detroit through issue campaigns and voter engagement.”

Michigan Liberation: “A statewide organization dedicated to the leadership development of community members and the creation of effective campaigns to advance racial, gender, economic and criminal justice reform statewide.”

Mothering Justice Action Fund:  “A well-organized group of mothers advocating for affordable child care, birth justice, earned paid sick time, family medical leave insurance, and raising the minimum wage.”

The Movement Voter Project is pledging to match up to $1 million in donations to help support volunteers, hire staff, and canvass neighborhoods.

Milano, as of now, will not endorse a particular Democratic candidate.

The progressive activist is outspoken on Twitter about her political beliefs. In the past, Milano called for a sex strike after states passed anti-abortion laws, and compared MAGA hats to KKK hoods. Currently, Milano hosts a podcast called “Sorry Not Sorry” where she discusses “social, political and cultural issues.”
